March 28th, 2009 — 14 day challenge
Day 1 of the PPC Kahuna 14 day challenge is broken down into two parts, finding a niche and keyword research. There are a couple of videos, each running a little more than 15 minutes. After jumping into the videos I’ve found out that the 14 Day Challenge is going to be a case study where Jason is going to show us how to promote a particular Clickbank product, from beginning to end. The product he’s using is called Earth4Energy which I guess is a hot selling Clickbank product.
In the first video, Jason gives an introduction to Clickbank, and shows us what criteria we should use to pick a good product to promote. I liked how he broke down attributes he looked for in a landing page, especially his “5 second rule” for determining whether the landing page was good or not.

Choosing A Clickbank Product
This part was simple enough for me to implement. I already had a Clickbank account, so I spent about 30 minutes looking at the various products in the Clickbank marketplace. I didn’t want to do the same product as Jason was doing and I wanted to make sure it was something I would be interested in spending my time promoting. I finally settled on a product from the Computing & Internet category which met all of the required criteria.
The second video on keyword research was quite eye opening. The way Jason goes about gathering keywords for his niche is completely thorough. Keyword research is definitely a time consuming process, but I was quite impressed with how organized he is as he’s gathering information from a variety of sources. The video also introduces two of the web tools that are on the PPC Kahuna site.
The first is the Keyword Manipulator Tool. Basically this tool allows you to paste in your keyword list, and perform actions like removing duplicate keywords, sorting and removing extra spaces and illegal characters from your list. It also has the ability to filter out certain keywords, perform find and replace, and a bunch of other list manipulations. Definitely looks to be quite useful.

Keyword Manipulator Tool
The second tool is the Keyphrase Multiplier. It looks kind of simple but it allows you to enter in different phrases, and the tool for example will combine a phrase from the first box with every phrase from the 2nd and 3rd box. This seems to be a very powerful way to generate a lot of keywords from a smaller list.
Anyway, the keyword research part took me quite awhile to do for my own product. There are quite a few steps involved, including using tools from several sites, but in the end, I was able to come up with a list of about 2000 keywords.
I also wanted to mention that I really like the supplemental PDFs. For Day 1, they include a checklist of the steps to follow, plus a couple of easy to follow flow-charts. Its a very handy reference to use after watching the videos.
March 26th, 2009 — Reviews
So I have now been a member of PPC Kahuna for a couple of days now. Honestly, there is a ton of stuff on the site to wrap my head around. The first thing I did though, was to grab my Traffic Travis Pro bonus. Like I mentioned in my first post, I am a really big fan of the program and it is a must have tool for any internet marketer. The free version actually did everything I needed, but if I can get the Pro copy for free, why not? Anyway, to upgrade my copy of Traffic Travis, all I had to do was email support@traffictravis.com, and forward them my PPC Kahuna receipt. I just got my license key this morning, so that’s great.
Anyway, back to the PPC Kahuna. Upon logging in, you can see that the site is pretty simple. On the front page, is a link to a Quick Start Checklist for people like myself. There’s also a section that displays the latest news and updates on the site. Let me highlight the icons on the menu from left to right.

PPC Kahuna Front Page
Forum – The PPC Kahuna Forum is running PhpBB and it seems to be split into a lot of sections. There is one section for each day of the 14 Day Challenge, plus several other sections related to other aspects of PPC Kahuna. Since the doors just opened recently, there are not a ton of posts yet, but I do see Jason participating the forum and answering questions.
Affiliates – PPC Kahuna has a generous 50% recurring commission affiliate program, and the affiliates area has all the promotional materials you will need. Definitely something to check out later!
Training – I think this is the place I will be spending most of my time in. There is one section devoted to PPC Kahuna Software Training. There is a bunch of training material here that I haven’t really had a lot of time to look at yet, but it looks like it covers all of the different tools that are part of the membership. Each training includes both a video (narrated by Jason) and a PDF. After taking a quick look at a couple of videos, they seem to be quite well done.
The other section of the PPC Kahuna Training is devoted to the 14 Day Challenge. Again, for each day there is an included PDF and video. I’m thinking about starting Day 1 tomorrow.
Tools – Here is where all the web based tools are located. I’m not sure what they all do yet, but I’ll come back here later when I get rolling.
Downloads – This is where you can download the PPC Kahuna Software and the other desktop based applications that are part of the PPC Kahuna membership. You will also find the monthly Affiliate Blueprint here which I’m very interested in checking out. In addition, this is where to go to find all the PPC Kahuna bonuses. I don’t have time to look at these yet, but I will sometime. =)
That seems to cover all the important sections. Like I said, I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything, but I think I will start off by checking out the 14 Day Challenge materials first. Tomorrow I am going to start with Day 1. Can’t wait!
March 24th, 2009 — General
I got an email in my inbox just the other day. It was from Mark Ling and he was writing to tell me about a new PPC membership course called PPC Kahuna. Now, normally, I would toss these sorts of email before opening them, but Mark is the creator of Traffic Travis which I am a big fan of. So I read the pitch, and it sounded really interesting. Especially since PPC Kahuna was developed by Jason Katzenback, who I read all the time as a subscriber to JohnCow.com. I always learn something new from his blog posts and I’ve actually made some money from some of his advice by implementing some of his suggestions on my sites.
I’ve always wanted to get into pay per click marketing but I never really had much success with it. Hearing the stories of people who makes thousands of dollars a day on Google Adwords, makes it seem like anyone can do it. Yet everytime I have tried myself so far, I would fail miserably. I personally have no problem creating my own websites, but the process of getting a good quality score is still a mystery to me. I can never figure out why Google Adwords never sends me the amount of traffic I see everyone else getting. I really only have a limited idea of how to perform keyword research. Usually, I just type in some stuff into the Google Adwords Keyword Tool and just use that. I also haven’t figured out what bidding strategies to use. I guess my biggest fear with this stuff is losing money, so that’s something I really need to get a handle on.
That’s what made the pitch for PPC Kahuna sound so interesting to me. By joining the site, I should be getting the tools and coaching I would need to setup some profitable PPC Campaigns. Plus I would be learning from someone who has done it before, and is hopefully willing to share his exact process for doing so.
I am also one of those types of people who has a hard time keeping my focus. I am always jumping around and trying out new things. That’s why the “14 Day Success Plan” on the PPC Kahuna sales page really caught my attention. I really like the idea of being able to watch Jason as he goes through the entire process of setting up his campaign, and since it looks like it will be broken down into concrete steps, I am feeling I will be able to follow along in a disciplined way. At least that’s the plan! $67 for a monthly membership definitely isn’t cheap, so I will be using that as a motivating factor as well to keep me on track.
This is also why I also started this blog – as a way to keep track of my experiences with my PPC Kahuna membership. Hopefully this can also act as a good review of PPC Kahuna for anyone reading as well. By jotting down what I have done, I hope to be able to replicate my success and start making some real money.
Wish me luck!
